About Us
Welcome to Jujitsu America, where tradition meets innovation! Officially incorporated in 1976, our roots go back to 1971 when a group of visionary martial artists from Hawaii’s Danzan Ryu community brought their expertise to Northern California. Their dream? To create a jujitsu organization that embraced diversity and growth while honoring the rich heritage of Danzan Ryu and Professor Okazaki.
Our founders—Wally Jay, John Cahill, Willy Cahill, John Chow-Hoon, Derrick Lee, Carl Beaver and others—sought to blend the best of various martial art styles. They incorporated not only Danzan Ryu but also judo, Escrima, and other jujitsu styles, creating a unique and dynamic training environment. Their legacy lives on in our commitment to excellence, inclusivity, and continuous learning.
At Jujitsu America, we are more than just a martial arts organization. We are a community where students and instructors of all ages and backgrounds come together to train, grow, and support one another. Whether you’re a beginner looking to start your martial arts journey or an experienced practitioner seeking to refine your skills, you’ll find a place with the Jujitsu America Family.
By joining Jujitsu America, you become part of a legacy that honors the past and leads with integrity into the future. We are dedicated to upholding the highest standards in the accreditation of rank, ensuring that each achievement is earned and recognized with respect and honor. Together, we continue to shape the future of martial arts with a strong foundation in tradition and an unwavering commitment to integrity.
